In clear & concise text illustrated with more than a thousand graphic drawings, the author takes the reader on a lively journey through the muscles, bones, ligaments & joints of the arms, legs & trunk. The emphasis in the book is on anatomy never for its own sake, but in its functional relationship into the actual movements of the body in dance, exercise & other physical disciplines. As a student of yoga and dance, I’m looking for an anatomy book to help me understand what search involved in movement. Unfortunately, most of the books I found were encyclopedic reference tomes that overwhelmed me with information. So I was pleased with this one run: because its specific focus is movement, the drawings and descriptions cover only the relevant anatomical details. It is easily understandable and clear, without simple. The organization of the book makes it easy to find the information you want. And it shows not only muscles and joints, other relevant body parts are represented, so the reader understands how everything works together (I have never understood what the diaphragm really looks like until I saw this book!). This is a book that belongs in every library – it is not just for dancers or physical therapist.

As other reviewers have said, this is an excellent introduction to the anatomy and kinesiology. The book strikes the perfect balance between detail and practical clinical skills for body-workers, athletes and dancers. We have copies of several pages on the wall at my Pilates studio, given the often mentioned.

all major groups of skeletal muscles of the limbs and torso are covered. It is not a disection manual. It is organized for students of movement. Of particular value, the section is paradoxical about the work of the psoas and the “psoas” that something is controversial.

more in depth, one text I can for the dancer / Pilates instructor is recommended to “Dance Kinesiology” by Sally Fitt Sevey.

This excellent book focuses on the practical explanation of the joint construction and function. Describes in easy to understand terms such as muscles act on the joints. Uncanny in its ability to simplify a complex issue, if it is carefully studied it give readers an understanding of applied anatomy and kinesiology almost two years of university level. Excellent-yet-simple images can dance, gymnastics, yoga and martial arts are available. I have extensively throughout my studies and I think there should be a standard text used in all human movement and physiotherapy courses.

The book contains hundreds of drawings showing the facilities and measures of skeletal muscles. Muscle actions are related to movements of stretching, walking, standing, dancing, sports, etc. Diagrams show the range of motion, such as muscle-action with attitude and position, directions in which power is exercised, how the actions of another muscle has varied.

This book is everything I wanted. I faced facts a long time ago that when it comes to subjects such as science and anatomy, I’m not incredibly talented. But I understood everything in this book read in the first. Everything is placed so blatant pragmatism that it is easy to digest.

as a yoga teacher, I have a book that covers sought as to how the human body moves in a way that I apply to my knowledge of postures. This book succeeded admirably.
